Welcome to my e-Portfolio

My name is Alexandra Cadman, and I am a second year student at Capilano University.  I am currently in my first year in the Business Administration program.  In addition to courses such as psychology and sociology in my first year of post-secondary, I took an introductory course to business marketing.  It is in that course that I discovered my interest for marketing and business.  In addition to marketing, I am interested in event planning and owning my own business.  I created this e-Portfolio so prospective employers can get a glimpse of my achievements throughout my post-secondary education in hopes that I will be successful in obtaining a career in the field of my choice.  If you would like to contact me please fill out a form on my contact page.

My new job experience

Recently, I decided to look for a job in the career field of my interest – business and marketing, that is.  I found a job working for Firefox Marketing Services as a street team promoter for their brand campaigns.  My first experience doing this promoting job was on July 30th and 31st at the Spirit of the Sea festival in White Rock, BC.  There we had a tent set up with giveaways and info postcards so that we could engage passersby and inform them of the brand we were promoting, which was NewEgg.ca.  The weekend was very successful, and although we had to work 10 hours each day, it was fun and we were able to stay energetic and happy the entire day.  This experience was a great introduction to future promoting and marketing jobs that I aspire to have.

Me doing some awesome promoting!

Schools out for summer!

Checking in here.  Classes and exams have been done for almost a month now, but it seems like it’s been a lot longer.  I have been enjoying myself and all the free time I have, but I’ve also been working a lot at my part-time job as a hostess at a restaurant.  I work about 4-5 days a week on average, and just this week I worked 6 days in a row!  So just because school is out, that doesn’t mean I’m not working hard!  I did manage to go on a mini vacation for 4 days to Los Angeles with a friend of mine.  I hardly ever travel so it was a blast for me to visit L.A., Hollywood, and Disneyland!  I’m excited for more summer adventures to come in the next 3 months :)

My experience with a wedding planner

A little over a year ago, when I was in grade 12, I took a work experience course where students were to contact a successful person working in the field of our interest and to volunteer our time and learn their expertise.  Not having a clue what I was interested in at the time, I did some research and came across Angela Girard, a local wedding planner in Port Coquitlam.  She is the owner of Reflection Events, and she has planned many wedding events and also plans an annual wedding show called Love Struck, an event which I attended and volunteered at.  Although I was young and confused, it was amazing to see the amazing things that could come out of all the hard work that Angela put in.  I may not have realized it at the time, but working with a wedding planner may have helped me in my decision to work in the business field.  Please look at some of the work I helped out with at one of Angela’s weddings:

My new favourite outdoor activity

I have never been too athletic, and every sport I tried I seemed to not be good at.  Whether it was because I started too late or I just didn’t apply myself enough, I never had an activity that I loved doing.  However, I recently took up snowboarding.  Not in the sense that it was my first time this season, because I had snowboarded before many times, but this year is the year that I actually got the hang of the sport.  I got over my fear of falling and finally learned how to shred down the mountain the right way.  And because I fully applied myself and put in the effort, it’s way more fun!  The lesson here is, you can do anything if you put the effort in (as cheesy as that sounds, its true!).

Marketing assignment

For my introduction to marketing class, students were to pair up and create an environmental and consumer behaviour analysis for a fictional online BBA program presented by Capilano University.  Students had to provide a report of the external and internal forces that effect the success/failure and marketing of the prospective product.  My partner and I received a B+ for this assignment.  Please view my Environmental Scan Project

My experiences as a first year student

It is almost the end of the spring semester here at Capilano University.  It has been quite an experience, one full of fun and new friends, but also of stress and confusion.  Going into this school year in the fall, I had no idea what path I would go down or what I would enjoy most out of the courses I took.  This year has mostly been to find out what career field I would like to pursue, be it psychology, sociology, business, etc.  After much consideration, I have decided to transfer into the Business Administration Degree program at Capilano with a concentration in marketing.  I very much enjoy Capilano and the intimacy of the campus that UBC or SFU does not have.  I am looking forward to the next 3 or 4 years of studying at Capilano University.

Psychology 100 term assignment

This assignment was a term project in the Fall 2010 semester at Capilano University.  The course was Introduction to Psychology 100.  The assignment was to take a concept learned in the course and apply it to a real life problem.  I obtained a score of 37 out of 40, a percentage of 93/100.  The assignment was worth approximately 20% of the entire course grade.  Please view this assignment at:
