Kia Motors the making of a Business Model

As a final team assignment for BSYS 1000, we were asked to do two things on microsoft excel.
1) Create Charts a.k.a “charting assignment”
2) Create a Business Model

Doing the charts for this assignment wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, despite the fact that there were a lot of charts to do. Coming up with a Business Model, however, was slightly more difficult. Why was it harder you ask? Well trying to figure out what to base your business model on is time consuming. Secondly trying to meet all the requirements for our model kind of took a lot of thinking. Eventually we decided to base our business model on Kia Motors, and the financing section of buying a car.

Aside from fashion, photography, and accounting, I also play the guitar and piano and i also sing. I’ve been singing ever since i can remember. I’ve been part of a church choir for a long time now, and in my high school i was part of all three choirs; main choir, chamber choir, and jazz choir. The choir at my high school (Saint Thomas More) managed to achieve gold at the 2007 ottawa music festival.

Who’s got a passion for fashion?

Before coming to BCIT, I originally wanted to go to the Art Institute of Vancouver to study Fashion Design. Last year (2008) was when i first started drawing designs and when I realized that I wanted to be a designer or working as a Buyer in a fashion store. To my surprise I was accepted to the Art Institute, the thing is i wasn’t able to go because I didn’t get enough from the student loan and it would’ve been too much for my parents to pay for.

By the end up my high school year, I had a total of 30 designs all done within 2 months. I still have yet to make these designs a reality but I have never quit my passion for fashion.

Even though I am going to a school that is very analytic I am still able to have my creative imagination through fashion. With the education from BCIT I would have the knowledge to be able to start up my own business and be able to manage my finances.

One of my interests aside from all the analytical numbers associated with accounting is photography. I got into doing photography a few years back. I’m not going to say I’m a professional photographer or an amateur one, I’d say i fall somewhere above amateur but way below professional. Taking pictures isn’t the only thing I do, I have to go onto Adobe Photoshop and edit them until I feel satisfied with the outcome.

For a small period in my life, I aspired to be a professional photographer, but i figured that I would just have photography as a side passion. Here is a few of the pictures that I have taken and edited.

I can “excel” in Accounting with MS Excel

Who knew that using MS Excel would make doing Accounting that much easier?? When i first started using excel for my accounting homework, I didn’t have to do the long calculations just to realize that the numbers didn’t balance. At that moment that’s where I would go why doesn’t it balance? Excel saved my life, it saved me from all the frustration when the numbers didn’t balance.

Even though doing accounting on excel saves me lots and lots of time, its just a little time consuming when inputting numbers manually and formatting the columns. But after all that is done, everything else is easy because all the formula’s are the practically the same.

Clubs, Groups, Associations, they’re all the same.

The first day at BCIT “the orientation” was the first day I signed up for a student association. I wasn’t expecting much to happen this day but seeing how it was a new school and seeing how I wanted to be involved, I tried to join everything that I could. It seemed as if everyone at orientation was signing up to be part of the Financial Management Association. Maybe it was all the free shirts, pens and notepads, they were giving away, or maybe it was the persuading speech they gave but either way a lot of people signed up. Personally I signed up because of the free stuff, but there were other perks for this group. I get to meet with potential employers, have face to face interaction with people in the business etc.

I feel that being part of the FMA is a good thing, maybe it’ll help me find my future job.

Tutorials, Word, and Blogs OH MY!

One of the assignments I had to do for my BSYS 1000 class was create a tutorial blog on a certain topic using ZenTutorials. I had reluctantly been given the topic of “inserting bookmarks with word 2007″. This wasn’t too hard of a topic, after all i was able to just click on the microsoft help button and what do you know, all the steps were there. I thought, this is going to be easy (and let me tell you it actually was), the only thing was that it was time consuming. To see the tutorial you can just click on the picture below.

In my Organizational Behavior Class (ORGB 1100) we had to come up with a Team Charter. This pretty much outlined what we as a team would do, how we would do them, and the consequences if we did not fulfill the expectations of our team. Coming up with a team charter isn’t as easy as it seems. It was the first assignment we had to do as a team, and it was especially hard when we couldn’t decide on how to base the criteria when we had to asses our team members. In the end, we managed to finally finish our Charter. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into making this happen… well not really, it was only tears because of all the stress we had when making it.

Canty International

Canty International is a company that my team (Team B’eyond”) and I did a case study on for our marketing (MKTG 1102) class. Doing this case study was quite hard because the company we had to research about wasn’t a real company. We did however manage to create a finish product that looks quite professional I must say.
