It’s a food blog I’m launching Feb 1 with a look into places around town that you would normally think of eating at or maybe were just too afraid to try. I’m mixing in written reviews with video reviews and a Cooking With Friends show.

The site is being built every day, so go take a look at before it’s officially launched!

It’s been hard to find work because I have so much going on – end of july, I’m going away for my bachelorette party and in August I’m getting married, so hopefully after the wedding, I will be able to find a more stable job. In the mean time, I’m volunteering with the Brazilian Film Festival and I will be working again with the Vancouver International Film Festival under the senior publicist (I’m excited!). My love of movies and writing are fulfilled, now lets see if I can do something to make it this profitable?

I’m currently doing some market research on a business I might want to start up, which makes me think about whether I should go into Communications at BCIT or maybe switch over to Entrepreneurship when I go back next year (I’m taking a year off). hmm.

Here are some spots I frequent regularly for the delicious food..

Sushi: Cuz you came to the right town for sushi!

Ebei Sushi (41st and Granville) – It’s best to do their all you can eat, it’s a little pricey but the portions and the selection is worth it. Of all the AYCE places I’ve been to, their sashimi here is so huge! They have cooked food as well – tempura, motoyaki, udon and they also have raw oysters!

Ro Sushi (A little bit off Cambie and Broadway) – This is a small sushi dive that has great bento boxes. My fiance and I usually get Box B II cuz it comes with teriyaki, salad, sashimi and tempura for under 8 bucks. They also have my favourite hawaiian roll (tuna and pineapple!)

Jako (656 Davie St – Downtown/Yaletown) – The service here is impeccable, their spicy salmon sashimi is delicious and they have interesting rolls (like the Stanley Park roll!).

Sushi Garden - (Burnaby, across Metrotown) – Sushi Garden is infamous w/people who live around the area and us BCIT students. The food comes fast and it’s delicious. Their smoked salmon & cream cheese roll is the bomb!

Shabusen (Granville near Broadway) – They’re always busy and a little rude (but NOT as bad as the one downtown) but the All You Can Eat sushi AND bbq is yummy.

Guu (Thurlow/Robson) – Guu is a japanese experience. It’s a bar so it’s noisy, the waiters yell in japanese to the cooks but its kind of a cool experience.

Japadog – (Burrard and Haro) – a hotdog stand with a twist – they’ve got some crazy flavours (seaweed, japanese mayo, wasabi mayo, etc!) – its well worth the wait! They’re not open on Tuesdays for some odd reason though!

Tenku Bakudanyaki - 7100 Elmbridge Way Richmond – It looks kinda sketchy because it’s from a trailer but if you’re a fan of those octo-balls from the night market, they’ve got HUGE ones (like a baseball!) here. They also opened up a Rice Wrap and a Ramen “House” so you can totally get your Japanese fill here in Richmond!

Vegetarian:
The Naam (2724 West Fourth Avenue – Kitsilano) – I KNOW a lot of people go UGHHH vegetarian food – and trust me , I could never become a vegetarian myself but this place is SO GOOD. It is so delicious and for those who worry that they wont leave feeling full, I could barely finish my plate!

Greek:
Stepho’s – (Davie Downtown) – there are always lineups out the door and its because the food is not only delicious, its cheap. For less than 10 bucks, you can get chicken/lamb/calamari platter with rice, potatoes, veggies, salad – a healthy serving mind you! – that is impossible to finish.

Chinese Food:
Honolulu Cafe (4288 Main) – a place my fiance and I go regularly, this place is not exactly fine chinese dining but the food, portion and prices are good. They have a “Set Menu” dinner where you can choose two or three items on it and it’ll be served with either rice/spaghetti, dessert, soup, toast and a drink for less than 12 bucks.They also have a mini menu with a variety of different dishes for under 6-7 bucks.

Pearl Castle (Richmond Centre) – The place is a charming little Hong Kong style cafe with lots of different dishes to try (try the hotpot and the spicy tofu dish!). The prices are decent and about right for a cafe.

Kwong Chow (Main & 16th) – Another chinese food place that is affordable and tucked away on Main street.

Beefy Beef (King Ed & Main Vancouver AND Willingdon near BCIT, Burnaby) – Another BCIT student favourite – Beefy Beef! Holy crap their portions are huge! I love the wasabi crispy peppery chicken w/the soup because it’s insanely huge (less than 8 bucks!).

Thai:
Simply Thai (Yaletown) – Another favourite place for me and my fiance to hit up. They aren’t very cheap but the food is great. They have lunch specials for under 9 bucks but it is always busy during lunch time.

Brunch:

Provence (Yaletown) – Ok, not the most affordable (six bucks for tea!) but the view and the atmosphere is so nice. I love having brunch here – its my secret shame haha =) The view is of false creek on the Yaletown side.

That’s all I can think of for now but more to come soon enough. Hope this helped someone out there looking for some good eats!
