In my leadership class we learnt how to coach others. This assignment was very helpful for me because it taught me how to get others to come to conclusions without giving them any advice. I was able to use open-ended questions and direct them to a place that would help them think of things they normally wouldn’t. I feel that if keep practicing this skill I will get better and hopefully be able to do it consistently in the future.

During class my group and I did a research report on the company Kinjoe. We created a timeline and a budget for ourselves which helped us stay on track and keep a list for us to complete. During this project I excelled my skills in Excel and I also learned how to make a survey on Quia. During this project I was able to learn more about the company that we worked for Kinjoe and what they are all about. After four years at Capilano University I completed my studies with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with Advanced Diplomas in Strategic Human Resources and Marketing. In my first year I was part of the Retail Marketing program and received my certificate in the program. In my second year I received my business diploma and after that I chose to continue in business to with concentrations in Human Resources and Marketing. As a graduate I am very excited to begin my career in Human Resources and use the tools that I have developed in the class room and transfer them in the work place.

Ever since I was 11 I have played volleyball. In high school I played every year and in grade 10 our team came first in Richmond. After high school volleyball I joined the Capilano Blues for one year. During my grade 11 year in high school, I coached the grade 8 boy’s team at Cambie Secondary School. I stayed and coached the boys for 5 years until they graduated. After the boys I coached the grade 10 girls volleyball team. In the post season I coached grade 8 girls for Synergy Volleyball Club in 2008. From 2009 to now I have helped with the Air Attack Volleyball Club. This past spring our U17 girls came 7th in the province. In the September school season I helped coach the senior girls at McMath Secondary School, we placed 6th in provincials which were held in Prince George.
Something that interests me is the enviroment. In my Business and Society (BADM 460) class we learnt a lot about what has gone on in the environment around the world. Some issues that are of interest are:
BP Oil Spill
Climate Refugees
Genetically Modified Organisms (Monsanto)
Chinese Animal Fur Trade
Northern Gateway Pipeline (Enbridge)
All of these issues were very interesting and have started a lot of heavy thinking in the world. The Northern Gateway Pipeline was the topic that I chose to do my research paper on. There was a lot that I learnt about this project. Enbridge proposed to build a twin pipeline from Bruderheim, Alberta to Kitimat, British Columbia that will be 1170km in length. They are proposing to build a Marine Terminal on the shore of the Douglas Channel that will be 1500m wide. Not only will this project be very dangerous carrying crude oil and condensate but it will hurt many aspects of the environment. The project will however supply 5550 on site jobs and 1150 long-term positions when the project is complete. Since the big BP oil spill on April 20th 2010, many feel that a project involving oil is something that is not needed now. The proposed cost of this project is $5.5 billion.
