Business Communication: Oral Presentation

Posted on November 10th, 2009 in Uncategorized by jlai23

For my Business Communication’s class, we must present an oral presentation to our class. The presentation topics all must be based on business. eg. Chartered Accountant designation, what to do in a interview, etc.

BCIT Parking

One thing that I dislike the most at BCIT is the parking. I dont like how they only offer weekly payments for parking rather than monthly payments. But one thing I like about the parking system is that if we put money into our BCIT account, we dont have to pay at the pay station because they will just take down your license plate number and it will be stored into the BCIT system.

My Future

Posted on November 9th, 2009 in Uncategorized by jlai23

Although I am still a first-year student, I have taken alot of time to think about what I want to do in the future. With the many accounting designations its hard to choose which one to target for.

I had then decided to narrow my options down to a Chartered Accountant or a Chartered Management Accountant. This is due to the fact that I have a cousin that had graduated from the same program I am in right now and became a CMA  and I am quite interested in what he does. I also chose the CA designation because it is a little bit of a challenge from what I hear from people, and I firmly believe that the more you suffer, the greater the reward.

Although they both have the same capabilities, a CA designation is alot harder to obtain. Due to this reason, I am inclined to enter into the Bachelor of Accounting program after I finish my Financial Management Diploma in hopes in obtaining both my Bachelor of Accounting and my CA designation through their joint program at BCIT.

Things I Enjoy

Posted on November 9th, 2009 in Uncategorized by jlai23

One of the things that I enjoy doing in my spare time is exercising. I think its a great way to releave yourself of stress and stay in shape during the harsh student life at BCIT. Its also a good way for me to clear my head and get focused.

I also enjoy learning about cars and how people push their vehicles to their maximum capacity. I hope that one day I will be able to purchase my own vehicle and take it out to Mission Raceway and go around the track a few times.

BCIT Orientation Day

Posted on November 9th, 2009 in Uncategorized by jlai23

Orientation day was the first day of my BCIT life and it was great. They gave such a warm welcoming by letting students play drums as an intro which i guess helped most people relax a bit more. Then they showed us all of the facilities that we were able to use which helped me find my way around on the first day of classes.

I thought it was great that they seperated us into our programs rather than just taking a bunch of random students and showing them around because it allowed me to meet people that I will work with for the next 2 years. This experience was a great way to begin my student life at BCIT.

Organizational Behavior – BARS

Posted on November 9th, 2009 in Uncategorized by jlai23

BARS stands for Behaviorally Anchored Rating Scale. It is a highly reliable scale used to assess the performance of team members. Members are rated from 1 – 5 in four catagories; 1 being “below standards” and 5 being “above standards. Our BARS was included in our Team Charter and includes the following categories: Listening Skills, Motivation, Work Ethic, Team Work and Communication. We believed that these things are the most important features of good team progress.

MS Excel- Tables

Posted on November 9th, 2009 in Uncategorized by jlai23

One of our most recent lab assignments for BSYS 1000 was based on Microsoft Excel. We had to create two tables only using a few set numbers and equations to fill them in. Here are some pictures of what they look like (the highlighted numbers are the only ones we got to type in ourselves):

Our first Marketing Case Study was about Research in Motion Vs. Apple. This was a very interesting subject and I thought my group did fairly well in our report.
