Marketing Case – RIM vs. Apple

This case was assigned to our team in our marketing class. Basically, we had to find an appropriate marketing strategy for their smart-phones to keep RIM ahead of other companies, especially Apple. Our team used several marketing concepts in this case, such as the SWOT analysis, marketing mix (product, price, promotion, and place), competitive analysis, etc.

Video Game – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

I’ve been waiting for this game to be released ever since Activision showed us the game play of MW2. I had to stand in line at Future Shop for an hour on Tuesday (November 10th) to get my copy! This is definitely the best game of 2009 hands down. CBC News just reported that Activision made an estimated $310 million US in North America and the United Kingdom alone on the first day MW2 went on sale. 4.7 million copies were sold within the first 24 hours. MW2 is a must have if you own an Xbox 360 or a PS3. Here is a video of the game play:

Personal Interest – Automobiles

Ever since I was a little child, I have been interested in automobiles. I received a present (SUV) from my Parents after I graduated from Rick Hansen Secondary, and that was by far the best day of my life! I like to do some work myself (oil changes, maintenance, installing new accessories, etc). Here’s a picture of my SUV and a tribute video I made of my old truck.

Webcast – U2 Live on YouTube

I watched this live concert on YouTube on October 25, 2009. This concert was sold-out and was held at the Pasadena Rose Bowl in California. It was the first time a show of this size was streamed live. There were over 10 million streams across the 7 continents! I thought it was simply astonishing what U2 and YouTube did. Here’s one song (Moment Of Surrender) they performed live that night:

MKTG H+J – Team Charter

This assignment was done by our team (MKTG H+J) for our Organizational Behaviour class. Basically, we were assigned to create a team charter with specific instructions. This charter defines our team’s purpose, how we will work with each other, and what is expected from us. Using the team charter, we can assess each members performance by using BARS (behaviourally anchored rating scale) and act accordingly.

Letter – Pacific Credit Union

In our COMM class, we had to write a letter to Pacific Credit Union on events that did not go as planned. This of course was a practice activity to improve our writing abilities. I must say, after writing 4-5 letters, I can now effectively get my point across much easier.

Business Report – Introduction to eBay

This is another assignment our team did for our BSYS class. Our task was to create a business style report using Microsoft Office 2007 on a topic of our choice. Using content from Wikipedia was allowed. After we completed the assignment, the file was then converted to PDF and uploaded to Lulu.com (company offering publishing and printing services).
