In my private life I am a passionate rock climber and a world traveler. Geography therefore is bound to be a subject I find very interesting. This was one of the first classes that really ‘grabbed’ me in the DRM program. This is partly because of the subject matter but also because of a great instructor, Jen Reilly. My academic skills were pretty unpracticed after being out of school for 7 years. This was the first academic paper we wrote for the DRM program and I chose to write it about one of my favorite places in the World, the Ao Phra Nang peninsula in Thailand. I have spent a considerable amount of time in this place rock climbing and enjoying the stunning Andaman Sea.
This paper describes the relationship that the people have to the land. The land is a natural attraction therefore is enabling the Thais to earn an income. It is however also particularly limiting and challenging in numerous ways. The paper describes these opportunities and challenges.
