Certified Management Accountants (CMA) are strategic financial management professionals with accounting skills and leadership competencies in international competitiveness, market development, human resources management, and information technologies.
Representing over 4000 CMAs and 1000 CMA students in British Columbia, CMA British Columbia maintains accreditation, regulates standards and conduct, and enforces continuing professional development of Certified Management Accountants in British Columbia. Vancouver Board of Trade: Leaders of Tomorrow Mentorship Program
I have met the application criteria and have been selected as one of many LOT applicants to attend the LOT interviews on Tuesday, July 6th from 5-7pm at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel located at 1180 West Hastings Street in downtown Vancouver. The LOT Student Interviews are an opportunity for to learn more about the program and for them to learn more about me by asking questions based on the program pillars of Mentorship, Networking, Volunteerism, and Leadership. Wish me luck at the interviews, hopefully I will be selected to join this prestigious program.
WHAT IS LOT?
Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) is a mentorship program of The Vancouver Board of Trade which engages final year Post Secondary Students from across the lower mainland with industry experts to develop the leadership and managerial skills of Vancouver’s future business leaders. Through the generous donations of our sponsors, LOT selects top students in their final year from local post-secondary institutions. LOT sponsors engage their employees by connecting with today’s fresh talent and ensuring the continued success of the British Columbia Economy. Students accepted into the LOT Program gain insight from business leaders, build professional relationships, and volunteer in their local community. Program Participants also receive a Vancouver Board of Trade Membership, offering them the opportunity to attend regular events to develop their skills and grow their network.
Through their involvement in the program students prepare to enter the workforce and develop the hands on skills to help them do so. The LOT Program is based on the four pillars of Mentorship, Volunteerism, Networking and Leadership.
Mentorship: Mentors dedicate 20 hours over the course of the one-year program to the mentees. The primary goal is to advocate for constructive change and positive growth. Volunteer mentors nurture talents and equip tomorrow’s community and business leaders with positive life skills.
Volunteerism: Through The Vancouver Board of Trade’s Committees and Task Forces, mentees explore current key issues and partake in community partners’ projects. LOT contributes thousands of volunteer hours to the community each year.
Networking: Mentees receive a one-year membership to The Vancouver Board of Trade, giving them access to over 250 events hosted each year. LOT also hosts over 20 events including industry expert roundtables, an orientation night, a graduation ceremony, socials events and joint events with The Company of Young Professionals® (CYP).
Leadership: The program equips LOT mentees with business cards, recommended readings, access to keynote speakers, group projects and so much more. Mentees develop social capital and engagement skills that will shape the pulse of Vancouver’s future.

Capilano Accounting Association
I have been part of the Capilano Accounting Assocation (CAA) at Capilano University in North Vancouver for the past year. During the fall & spring semesters, I held the position of Marketing Co-ordinator. My position within the CAA has now changed to Social Media Manager. I will be creating and updating a facebook fan page for the CAA as events and news arises. Hopefully it will help other students learn more about the various accounting designations – Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified General Accountant (CGA), and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) – and help them decide if a designation is right for them. Involvement in the CAA is also a great way to network with other students as well as with accounting firms, such as KPMG, which can lead to increased job opportunities in the future. My group and I just finished our two year marketing plan for Sunshine Coast Natural Care beauty products. The company is owned by one of the member’s (Chloe Small) sister, Thea Small. Thea bought the company two years ago and makes all the products in home using all natural ingredients. She also grows her own calendula, which she harvests as an Essential Oil, which she then infuses into many of her products. The website link for SCNC is http://www.scnaturalcare.com/.

Welcome to Khrystel Pigeon’s Blog. I am finishing the 3rd year of my Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Capilano University in North Vancouver. I plan on pursing a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation upon completion and possibily a Master’s of Environmental Science, as I am very interested in environmental sustainabilty.
