Welcome to my e-portfolio. My name is Sharry Cu and I am a current BCIT Financial Management student. The purpose of this blog is to showcase examples of the work I have done this past year at school!

At BCIT, I am currently taking seven courses where I am acquiring many skills for the future work world! In Computers class, I am learning to use MS word, MS powerpoint, and MS Excel. I am also learning about organizational behavior in the workplace in a class called OB, and many different accounting processes in Accounting class. Overall, I am coming across many great experiences at BCIT.

My long-term goal is be able to be a part of an accounting/finance business organization where I will be able to continue to learn and develop experience, contribute to different job roles, and make a difference! I am also hoping that I can use my future accounting and finance skills to help the society and community.

Learning to use MS Excel 2007

In Business Information Systems class, along with learning the functions of Powerpoint and Word, we are also learning how to use MS Excel 2007. Excel is really useful, and I am learning all the shortcuts so that I am become an expert Excel user. I know that many jobs use Excel and that these skills are necessary to acquire.

Team Charter

In Business Organizational Behavior class, we made team charters with the group we were put into. Because working in teams exists in every organization and workplace, it is important to have a set of rules and disciplinary actions to follow by. The team charter had a set of guidelines, expectations, and team norms! It was the first project we did together as a team, which was a great why to get to know my classmates better.

Canty International: Marketing Case Study

In marketing class, we were assigned a case study group project. We analyzed a wall-covering company, Canty International. The case study was a great way to explore different marketing techniques and develop a marketing plan that was practical and useful. The report is fully detailed with precise with price calculations. It was fun pretending to be a real marketer!

In our Business Information Systems computer class, we made a video explaining why we preferred BCIT over other post secondary options. This project allowed us to use our MS Powerpoint 2007 skills, and really appreciate how great our school is!:

Marketing presentation: Apple Vs. RIM

In marketing class, My team and I presented a marketing case study about how RIM (Blackberry’s Research in Motion) can overcome objectives and beat its competitor – mainly Apple. This included extensive research of both competitors and some very unique solutions on how RIM can stay on top of the game! We presented our marketing plan and solutions to the class through a Powerpoint presentation.

MS Word Project:Introduction to Facebook

In Business Information Systems computer class, we created an e-book for new Facebook users. The purpose of creating the e-book was to learn the different functions of MS Word 2007. We also posted the e-book on Lulu.com to see if anyone would buy it!

Set Rep Meet

On October 7th, there was a set-rep meeting for all BCIT Financial Management first year and second year students. Set-rep are the representatives for each class, which passes important messages to their classmates. During the meeting, we talked about the importance of being a set-rep, and the importance of passing on information to our fellow classmates. We also had pizza and talked about the new U-Passes that BCIT will have in September 2010! It was alot of fun meeting all the set reps from the Financial Management Program, and I can’t wait for the next meeting!

Playing Basketball

I’ve been playing basketball for 6 years for school teams, a club team, and in intramurals. This has always been one of my hobby’s and I plan to continue playing in a women’s league when I have extra leisure time!

In November 2008, I played on a high school team and we played at a Vancity Tournament at Langara college. I ended up winning a scholarship from the tournament. It was a lot of fun, and there were many great teams from all over Vancouver – both private and public schools.

My teammate Leanh and I also won the two-ball contest at that tournament!

I am a councilor on the BCIT Student Association. We have bi-weekly meetings at school and discuss things like installing new microwaves, and amending policies. It is great because we meet many people from different schools; from the school of health science, engineering, broadcasting, business, etc. I was also student council’s treasurer in high school, which is why I was initially interested in being a part of BCIT’s SA. The association consists of a president, chairpersons, executives, and councilors. There are about 30 of us that meet and input our ideas and figure out solutions on how to improve the school lifestyle and environment at BCIT.

Excel Team Project

In Business Computers class, we got together in teams to do an excel team project. We had to make a number of different charts, each with tables and formula functions, and we also had to create our own business model. The business model we made was a Paycheck calculator based on commissions sales people:
