Models i’ve photographed

I really am begining to love portrait and fashion photography. I’ve recently started shooting fashion pieces bi-weekly with various models and stylists around Vancouver. I really like a stylist with a unique and innovative fashion sense, and a model with a strong, gorgeous face. If you know anyone that fits these requirements please drop me a line and i’ll be more than happy to set up a shoot.

Modeling I’ve done

Self Portraits

I recently challenged myself to do a self portrait every day for a month. I guess i didn’t anticipate the challenge because i only went 13 days. However these are a couple of my favorites

One area of photography i’ve been very concentrated on is band photography. I find i’m usually taking photos at night, and that usually is fine with the use of flash. However capturing ambiance lighting is a huge part of band photography, and that means no flash. Since the bands move around alot its very hard to capture good shots. I’ve practiced alot to come to the point i am now, but i never stop trying to get better and better. Most of my band photography usually goes up on the Futurists webblog.

Promotion
Familia is currently involved in a contest with the Peak radio station in Vancouver. They are competing with 20 other bands for a top prize of $150,000 to go towards their career in music. To help them out i made some videos to promote them. Watch them all at my Youtube channel .

The reason why I became curious about photography actually stemmed from the party photographers that always attended the events i went to. Everyone would be so excited to see the pictures the next day. Of all the photographers have different approches and styles. Once i started doing it I found i was very good at caputuring people in moments. I guess you could say I have a bit of a papparazzi style. Party photography is my main contribution on the Futurists webblog.

These photos were taking October 29/09 for the Ice Cream Social 3 year Annniversary.

In organizational behaviour, we are studing motivational theories. In order to assess our peers and our own motivational methods we were required to write a one-page story on a time where we were most motivated. I found after reading everyone else’s heroic tales of drive and endurance, that mine was rather fluffy. However, it is true and I still think i’m pretty cool. So that counts for something.

       Getting off my couch

                There is something very different about me today compared to the person I was two months ago. A side of me that I haven’t seen my entire life has begun to grow at a rapid pace. I’m a motivated, driven person who is taking on the very maximum I can chew, and I never thought it could make me so happy.

            The summer was probably my absolute lowest point of motivation. I was melted onto the couch, eating chocolate for lunch, playing on a Neopets account (a game I used to play when I was 11). I’d finally drag myself off to go to a party in the evening, my social life being of utmost importance to me. I worked solitary shifts at a vintage store, where I would listen to music and draw pictures, occasionally talking to customers. Going nowhere, doing nothing, and completely content…or so I assumed. Everyone warned me about the heavy workload at BCIT and I told myself I was ready for it, though I have no idea how I could make that assumption with the way I was acting. I just knew that, like the caterpillar, I had been sitting dormant in a cocoon for so long, and it was coming time to burst out as a butterfly.
            School started and instantly I was hunched over my desk taking notes and reading books. Homework started piling up and I quit going out as much, I quit drinking on weeknights and quit smoking. It was scaring me, I panicked a bit on the load I had taken on, but it was never too hard. I kept going with the flow and I was so surprised at the 180 I took. Once it all settled in I decided to take on more, and applied to be the resident photographer. Now it was school and a light workload. Once I got my first assignments I panicked again. When would I do my homework if I was covering events and editing photos all the time? It still wasn’t too hard. I just kept on it until my work was done, and it all worked out. Recently, I’ve begun working for a photography blog, which I have to contribute fashion, music or party photos at least twice a week. Now the panic was very evident, I had to sit down and have some tea to calm myself. This combined with extra photography I do for friends and bands occasionally I was really cutting out any spare time. I purchased a small datebook which instantly became completely full. Yet it all still flowed, and I could still handle it.

            My mother is amazed I have a datebook. The person I was and the person I have become in the past two months are not even comparable. I found that I can take on responsibility, and can be an adult, and it’s not all stress. It’s rewarding, beneficial and making me very proud of myself.  Who knows where I’ll be after two years.

Welcome to my e-portfolio

My name is Sydney Gregoire, and i’m pretty excited about life.
I’m currently in my first year of Marketing at BCIT, set to graduate from the Communications option in 2011. There’s a strong business side to me, thanks to my father. I believe and live in professionalism. I’ve worked in retail and as a server for the past three years and have realized a natural knack for sales.  

I also have a very obvious creative side. I have been teaching myself photography and editing through daily practice, and by speaking to many local photographers i’ve come to know. It is a definate passion of mine. I contribute to a photoblog (the Futurists) twice a week that focuses on but is not limited to party, band and fashion photography.

It’s hard for me to pinpoint what my desired outcome is with school right now, as i’m finding alot of pleasure in exploring my options. I’m considering advertising and promotion, or perhaps one day owning my own photography business. To find a career that would satisfy both sides of me would bring me unlimited happiness.
