I am currently reading the book “Rich Dad Poor Dad” and I find m0st of the thing in the book very interesting and true.  The book explains that school doesn’t teach us the important fundamentals of financials and how important it is that we know it.  Although I have not finished reading the book it has really inspired me to learn more about my financial situation and things that I can do to improve it.

My current hobby is dodgeball, it is a great hobby that requires teamwork and coordination.  It is similar to working with small teams in a business environment, it requires everyone in the team to participate in order to achieve the goal of the team. 

I am currently playing in the Vancouver Dodgeball League (VDL) with a team consisting of 10 members.

I have 7 years of experience using Microsoft Excel, I first learnt how to use Excel in a systems information class in secondary school.  In many projects I have completed, it required me to use Excel to produce numerical results.

I have used excel to create a start-up cost analysis for my small business project, the spreadsheet would include the cash required to start the new business and the recurring monthly expenses in keeping the business running.  I also created a cash flow forecast that shows all the business’s first year profits and expenses, the cash flow forecast also shows whether the business is profting or losing money at the end of the year.

For this project my partner and I had to create a small business.  We had to design a business plan and cost-benefit analysis report which can be presentable to the bank in order to receive a loan to start the business.  This project requires us to find a location for the small business and the costs which associates in leasing the location, renovation costs, staff costs, and attaining a business license.  This project is a detailed business plan required to start a small business.

For one of my previous projects in my management class, my group and  I had to design a business and tackle all the barriers that come with opening a new business.  The project includes situational analysis, alternative analysis, problems, solutions, marketing plan, and operational plan.  Basically the project showcase the workload in starting a new business and the management skills with working in a team and accomplishing all the goals in the project.

Management Project

Currently I am working on another project for my business system information class.  This class requires students to show a good understanding of computers and the hardware and software that associates with them.  The project requires me to design a customer and purchase history database for an existing small business located in North Vancouver.  I am currently programming this database using the Microsoft Access application, this project is only in the early stages but I have managed to design 2 data flow diagrams that provides an outline for this project.

For my marketing research class I have created a blog about food culture in Vancouver.  In the blog I used secondary research to gather information about the cultures residing in Vancouver and the style of food they have introduced to the world.  I introduced some popular cultures and foods in Vancouver and briefly discussed the history.  My goal for the food culture blog was to showcase how Vancouver is a wonderful place to find many cultures of cuisine.

Currently, I am part of Colddraft Consulting, as a team we are working on a marketing research project.  Our goal of this project is to identify whether it is a viable idea for a restaurant to extend business hours in Vancouver, British Columbia.  To achieve the goal of this project we are going to attain primary and secondary research with statistics to conclude whether or not the restaurant should extend business hours.

This Eportfolio highlights some of the projects I have accomplished at Capilano University. One of the classes I am currently attending is Marketing Research where I am learning how to do systematic gathering, recording, and analysis of data in the marketing field.  I will also showcase my skills and understanding of Microsoft Excel, the most recent activity I have been involved in, and one of my hobby’s.
